Fumey-Chatelain Savagnin Ouille 2020

This is the fresh, salty, crunchy style of Savagnin, where the wine is aged on lees in barrels that are fully topped up. Sourced from 50 year old vines, and aged for 19 months in old barrels, this is an intense wine brimming with wild herbs, fresh pears and a briny finish. Fumey Chatelain is a husband and wife team - Raphael Fumey and Adeline Chatelain, who tend about 17 hectares of vineyards in the Jura subregion of Arbois. Thirty years ago they were solely grape-growers but after the devastating frost of 1991 left them with only a tiny crop to sell they decided to make the wine themselves, and have not looked back since.
